Crackdown on gaming machines
Derry cops are to crack down on illegal gaming machines in the city.
A PSNI spokeswoman says police will be targeting businesses who allow illegal machines on their premises.
She says the PSNI has received a number of complaints from the public about the machines.
Area Commander Chief Inspector Jon Burrows said: “Excuses won’t be accepted. Local retailers should be fully aware of the legislation surrounding gaming machines. If not, they should make it their business to know. A number of planned operations are expected to take place over the next few months and officers will actively be inspecting premises. I suggest that retailers use this time to get their business in order otherwise they could face prosecution.”
Police are reminding businesses that gaming machines are not permitted in fast food outlets, video hire shops, shops and taxi offices. They are however permitted in registered clubs, pubs, amusement arcades and bingo clubs.
