The former Avondale Nursing Home in Culmore, has been severely vandalised and used as a “drinking den,” with one local councillor describing it as a “hotspot” for anti-social elements.
SDLP Councillor Angela Dobbins told the ‘Journal’ that she witnessed children as young as 13 drinking alcohol there. The former residential care home has also had almost all the windows smashed, lead stripped from the roof, metal piping stolen, paint poured over the walls and floors, several interior and exterior doors kicked in and the gardens have become overgrown and littered with glass.
The ‘Journal’ understands Avondale has been purchased by a new, as yet unidentified owner in recent weeks. City councillor, Angela Dobbins SDLP, called on those new owners to make assurances to secure the property.
