Curse of the age
Anti-social behaviour is the curse of this age.
The political violence of the Troubles has left a legacy that will not be eliminated without a determined effort by the whole community.
Young people have been presented with a legacy of violence where rioting and more serious forms of violence are seen as acceptable.
It is not surprising that some want to follow this example and get a taste of that violence. For them, rioting has become a form of fun and recreation.
Everyone, in particular community leaders, must now address these issues in a concerted and determined way.
Scourge of racism
Racism is a growing menace across Northern Ireland and urgent measures must be taken to address it before it spirals out of control.
Until fairly recently, the dominant view was that Northern Ireland didn't have a 'race relations' problem.
There were so few minority ethnic people living here, so it had been widely argued, that racism was simply not an issue.
Moreover, it was felt that the political conflict in Northern Ireland had tended to focus people's minds on relations between just two communities - Catholics and Protestants - leaving little time to recognise and/or be concerned about any others.
Everyone has a role to play in creating a Northern Ireland in which racial diversity is valued and respected and where racism is not tolerated.
