Demonstration in support of Marian Price

A parade to highlight the case of jailed republican Marian Price will take place in Derry on April 22.
Among those expected to attend the event are human rights campaigner Monsignor Raymond Murray, Peggy O’Hara, whose son Patsy died on hunger strike in 1981, and relatives of the victims of Bloody Sunday.
The march will leave Free Derry Corner at 2.30 pm and proceed to Guildhall Square.
Marian Price has been in custody since May 2011 when NIO Secretary of State Owen Paterson revoked the release from prison on licence of the Old Bailey bomber.
Ms Price, also known as Marian McGlinchey, had been charged with encouraging support for an illegal organisation, the IRA, following a dissident republican rally in Derry on Easter Sunday 2011.
The judge granted her bail on that charge, although her licence was later revoked.
She was subsequently charged in connection with the murders of two soldiers at Masserene in March 2009, a charge she denies.
In February of this year, she was moved to Hydebank women’s prison from Maghaberry jail.
Among those supporting this month’s protest is the Civil Rights Network which says it’s “deeply concerned” by many aspects of the Price case.
A spokesperson said: “We support the call that Marian Price should be freed on the basis of an assessment by prison doctors.
“It is quite clear that her continued imprisonment damages public confidence in the entire justice system.”
