Derry bomb attack condemned
There has been widespread condemnation of the overnight bomb attack on a Derry police station.
Brian Rea, Policing Board Acting Chairman, says those behind the attack have "no regard for human life and are only interested in causing maximum disruption and devastation to our community."
"Innocent civilians and police officers doing their jobs were put at serious risk from this attack, property was damaged and nothing was achieved. I have no doubt that the whole community in the city and afar will completely condemn this destructive and murderous attack.
"I would encourage anyone with any information to bring it to the attention of the police so those responsible can be caught."
Alliance MLA Kieran McCarthy, the party's chief whip, described the attack as "abhorrent" .
"There is a small number of people who are trying to cause mayhem in our society but they must never prevail. The massive progress made in Northern Ireland in recent years cannot and must not be damaged by those seeking to cause instability.
"The circumstances surrounding this bombing are very distressing. It's appalling that a taxi driver was forced to bring the device to the police station. The callous disregard shown by those behind this is clear and my thoughts are with those in the vicinity when this bomb exploded.
"Anyone who has any information about this or any other incident should contact police immediately so that these elements can to be taken off our streets as quickly as possible."
