Derry could get new train station

Derry could be in line for a new railway station, it’s emerged.
Translink says it is looking at proposals for a “potential” new train station in the city’s Waterside.
Translink says that, to date, funding for a new station has not been available but it is now looking at the feasibility of upgrading and/or relocating the train station and has developed a series of options for consideration.
These include: refurbishing the existing station, building a new Ebrington Station, relocating to the original Waterside Train Station and a new ‘Waterside Link’ Station.
Translink is now looking for the public’s views on the options.
The consultation follows the recent announcement that the Derry-Belfast line will re-open on March 24.
Public consultation events will take place at Foyleside Shopping Centre on February 28 and March 2 (9 a.m-5 p.m.) and on March 7 and 9 at Lisnagelvin Sports Complex (9am-5 p.m.)
A brochure and passenger questionnaire outlining proposals will be available from Thursday, February 28 or online at www.translink.co.uk/watersidestation.
There will also be information displays in Foyle Street Bus Station and the Waterside Train Station when the public consultation events are complete. Deadline for public responses is May 24, 2013.
