Derry pro-lifers take anti-abortion protest to Stormont

One of Derry's leading pro-life groups has organised a multi-dominational prayer vigil and rally outside Stormont in an effort to stop abortion being legalised in the North.

The rally, organised by the Sacred Heart of Jesus Pro-life group, will take place on Wednesday, 15th October at 11am.

"The abortion threat to Northern Ireland comes from a group of MPs in Westminster who have put forward a proposal to extend the 1967 Abortion Act to the province, despite strong opposition from the people, politicians, and churches. There could be a vote on the proposal in the Houses of Parliament this month during the 'Report Stage' of the controversial Human Fertilization and Embryology Bill", said Bernadette Ferreria, Sacred Heart of Jesus Pro-Life group.

"Catholic and Protestant Pro-Life groups are standing in unity and prayer to petition the parties of the NI Assembly to come together in unity and agree to devolve justice to NI so the present attempt by Westminster pro-abortion MPs to bring abortion on demand to the North may not go through and to ensure this can never be attempted by Westminster again," she added.

"We are asking that people from all faiths come and join us at Stormont to pray and unite and petition our government to do the same. In the whole history of Northern Ireland never before has the threat been so great to legalise abortion here, this is the Pro-Life battle of all battles. If anyone is interested in joining us there will be a bus costing 5 leaving Derry on Wednesday morning the 15th. Please call 0287 1370 635 or 0282 5657185 or sign the online petition (On 10 Downing Street Website) or make a donation to Sacred Heart of Jesus Pro-Life Bank of Ireland account :13339679 sort code- 90-49-74."
