Derry to host Walled Towns AGM 2013

Mayor Kevin Campbell has received the official European Walled Towns (EWT) flag which Derry will fly next year as host city for the body’s European AGM.

Councillor Brenda Stevenson, chair of the Council’s Development Committee, was in Austria last week where she received the flag on behalf of the city.

The EWT is the international association for sustainable development of walled towns, cities and fortified towns in Europe and is aimed at promoting the mutual interests shared by walled towns.

Mayor Campbell said hosting the European Walled Towns AGM - due to take place in October 2013 - was a significant boost for the city. “The conference will present us with a great opportunity to showcase our walled city and to welcome representatives from walled cities across Europe to experience our city and its people,” he said.
