Dog burned in fire
A dead dog has been found in a fire at an industrial estate in Derry.
Fire fighters found the dog, understood to be a German Shepherd, when they were called to tackle a fire at Springtown Industrial estate at around 6:15pm yesterday (September 3).
The dead dog was found among a large quantity of burning tree clippings.
“Police are investigating a report of a dog being found dead on a fire at Springtown Road on Sunday 2nd September, shortly after 6pm,” a PSNI spokeswoman says.
SDLP Councillor John Boyle has condemned whoever was behind the dog’s death.
Mr Boyle said:“I would urge anyone who knows anything about this vicious and cruel attack to help police with their enquiries. This animal suffered gruesome head injuries and was tortured and burned.
“Cruelty to animals is a cowardly act and should not be tolerated. The people that carried out this brutal assault on an innocent animal should be held to account for their mindless actions.”
