Don't graffiti march route - call

The Bloody Sunday families have appealed for those attending the Bloody Sunday march this weekend to "treat it with the dignity it deserves."

John Kelly made the appeal on behalf of the Bloody Sunday families and said he hopes the march will be well supported.

"The families are appealing for people to treat the march with dignity and remember what they are commemorating and respect it," he said.

His call was echoed by community workers in the Bogside who have asked people attending the Bloody Sunday march this weekend not to write graffiti on the march route. Colm Barton from the TRIAX community group and the Bloody Sunday Weekend Committee, said people are entitled to express their views but asked for respect for people living along the route of the march.

"We would ask people not to graffiti the march route but rather to come up with more creative and artistic ideas for getting their message across. We have increasingly seen the use of boards to highlight issues and would encourage people to consider this or other options as opposed to painting on the nearest wall," he said.
