EXCLUSIVE: Disgust at family pet hanged
The distraught owner of a family pet that was found dead, hung from a metal pole in the backyard of a Limavady home, says she is heartbroken at the cruel and sick death of the dog.
‘Buster’, just two years old, was bought as a birthday present to the woman’s child. The horrific discovery was made this morning at the home in Drumachose Park, just after 7am. The pet, white and brown coloured, was hung using its own lead.
The owner, a mum of three young children, told the ‘Journal’ this morning the family is devastated and can’t understand why anyone would do that to an animal.
“Buster was more than a dog,” she said, crying. “ He was part of our family. Why would anyone do that to a wee dog?”
The woman, who preferred not to be named, said Buster was a loveable playful dog and will be sorely missed by the family.
“When I opened the kitchen blinds this morning and saw Buster swinging from the pole, I couldn’t believe it. I just closed the blinds and rang the police. When they came even they were distraught, she said, adding:” I am totally disgusted and sickened. I am heartbroken.”
Police, who were on scene at the house earlier today, are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.
Local DUP Colr. Alan Robinson met with the family this morning. He told the ‘Journal’ said there was outrage and disgust at what happened.
“I am seething with anger today as a dog lover and a dog owner. I have witnessed total carnage in the house and it ‘ s almost like a wake house, a family mourning the loss of a family pet,” he said.
Colr. Robinson had this message for those behind the “sickening” act.
“Hand yourself in to a clinic and get help because if you can do this, I dread to think what you can do to a human being,” he said.
Police want anyone with any information about the incident to contact them immediately.
