Family's anger at bomb bid
One of the cars targeted by RAAD in Creggan on Sunday night belonged to a man the organisation shot five times in the legs last month.
Following Sunday’s attack, Tony Dalzell senior removed the pipebomb from his son’s car, unaware of the danger.
Mr. Dalzell told The Journal: “I thought it was a stone. It was in the driver’s seat having been thrown through the back windscreen. I then realised it wasn’t a stone. I saw the fuse and realised what it was.”
Mr. Dalzell then placed the bomb on a nearby wall and called the police.
The family were evacuated and were only able to return home at 7.30am the following morning.
During the gun attack, the five strong gang put a gun to the head of Mr Dalzell’s 14 year-old daughter and her 16 year-old friend.
Another daughter, Brenda, said: “Why are they targeting our family? What makes it all right for them to put a gun to the head of my teenage sister or bomb my family home? This has to be sorted.
”What would they have said if the bomb had exploded in my father’s hand? Would they claim he deserved it?”
There were also children playing in the street who would have been scarred for life had they witnessed something like that.”
The family denied the RAAD allegation that the shooting victim was involved in the drugs’ trade.
Brenda added: “People in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones.”
Celine Fahy, a family relative, said: “RAAD have warned residents not to contact police but it is their shooting and bombing attacks which bring the PSNI into Creggan.”
