Family of missing man believe he may have taken his own life

The family of a Derry man who went missing last year have made a fresh appeal for the public’s help in finding his body.

Despite exhaustive searches along the River Foyle and other areas, no trace has been found of 22 year-old Eamonn Moore, of Jefferson Court in Derry, who went missing last November.

Family members of Mr Moore told a press conference on Friday that they believe he may have taken his own life.

City centre CCTV footage has revealed his last known movements near the banks of the Foyle on Saturday, November 26.

However, a 45 minute period elapased between Mr Moore being seen on CCTV and his sending of a text message to two family members.

Mr Moore’s uncle Liam Healy made an emotional appeal for landowners or those who regularly walk in areas on the outskirts of the city to be on the look out for any sign of his nephew’s body as he could have covered quite a “large distance” on foot in the 45 minute period.

“We’re appealing to people that have land or outhouses or those walking in forests on the outskirts of the city to please check and get in touch with the PSNI if they see anything.”

Mr Healy also paid tribute to all of the people of Derry, Foyle Search and Rescue and the PSNI who assisted in the extensive search “the length and bredth of the Foyle” for Eamonn.
