Fay tears strips off Derry's hairy men
It's the kind of beauty treatment you'd imagine having in London or New York.
We’ve all heard of the Hollywood and the Brazilian wax - but the latest in-vogue method of hair removal is called threading.
Threading clinics which use the ancient Arabic method of pulling hair from the face with cotton thread have been springing up in London.
But Derry beauty therapist Fay Kelly says she’s been offering ‘threading’ at her salon Tranquillity for years. The problem is, she says, people don’t realise it!
And she revealed she’s the only salon in Derry which offers complete waxing for men in their - intimate areas.
Fay, who spent 17 years working as a beauty therapist in London, is keen to get local people through the doors to try out her treatments.
And there’s little that fazes her.
Fay offers a complete service at her salon in Tranquillity at Fitness First, and anything London can do, she bets she can match.
“Women who’ve had threading done say it leaves their skin less red and sensitive, and they believe the effects last longer,” she said. “We just want people out there to know we offer it.
“We cater for the demands of men and women at Tranquility and more men are coming through the doors. A lot of local men have already been having their chests and backs waxed, waxing has been popular for men. Now they looking for more waxing.
“I worked in the Carribean for many years and we were used to doing complete waxing on women, so when the Brazilian and the Hollywood came out, we got on with it. With experience in waxing you can wax anywhere.
“There is a real demand from men in Derry who want intimate waxing, and we are the only place that does it.
“I didn’t offer the full works for men until recently when I had men coming and asking for it. It’s in real demand. Previously local men were going to Belfast to have it done, but they can have it done here now as well. Many of them think it makes them a lot cleaner, and it has become popular with celebrities.”
