Frisbee fanatic to take on world!
A frisbee fanatic from Derry has been selected to represent Ireland at the upcoming World Ultimate & Guts Championships (WUGC) in Canada.
Rebecca McRory (22), from Glen Road, started playing the game when she moved from Derry to Glasgow to study law.
The fourth-year student said: "My brother played Ultimate Frisbee when he was studying at Dundee and I thought I would give it a go when I moved to Glasgow."
A keen hockey player during her time at Foyle and Londonderry College, Rebecca's exploits on the Ultimate Frisbee field have already seen her travel extensively. She has represented her university, the Scottish women's team ('Swift') and the Scottish mixed team ('High Altitude') in Belgium and Italy.
On hearing of her selection to the Irish team, Rebecca said: "I am so looking forward to competing at the top level of my sport with a group of unbelievable ladies. One of the great things about ultimate is the abundance of travel opportunities. Canada is going to be amazing and playing there in the world championships, representing your country in a sport you pretty much eat, sleep and breathe, makes it all the more special."
She added: "It's a week-long tournament and in the run-up to the championships we well be training three times a week. We want to try and do as well as we can and I'm really looking forward to it."
