Things are about to get a little more hirsute for around 40 regulars of Laurence’s Bar.

The normally clean shaven punters of the Waterside watering hole will grow moustaches over the next month as part of a ‘Movember’ fundraising challenge for cancer charity CLIC Sargent.

The charity provides much needed support to children and young people - and to their families - who have been diagnosed with cancer.

“The charity has provided vital support to families here in Derry,” the fundraisers say on the bar’s Facebook page, where you can keep up to date with how the Movember challenge is progressing.

“That is why we 40 regulars from Laurence’s Bar in the Waterside have decided to raise funds for it during the month formerly known as November.

“We will join with the thousands of men across the world to raise money for their chosen cause by sprouting magnificent moustaches during the month now renamed Movember.”

Ahead of the 30 days of moustachioed fundraising, each Mo Bro is being readied for the razor free challenges that lie ahead.

“For the entire month each Mo Bro must grow and groom a moustache. There is to be no joining of the mo to the sideburns (that’s considered a beard), there’s to be no joining of the handlebars to the chin (that’s considered a goatee) and each Mo Bro must conduct himself like a true gentleman.”

At the end of the challenge, the journey will be celebrated with a Movember Party, complete with raffle, in the bar on November 30.

You can get more info at Laurence’s Bar Facebook page.

All proceeds raised will be used to support CLIC Sargant’s Northern Ireland Home from Home appeal. Details are available online at www.clicsargent.org.uk/content/northern-ireland-appeal
