Go whale watching at Dunree this Sunday
To celebrate the 18th anniversary of the declaration of Irish waters as a Whale and Dolphin Sanctuary the Irish Whale and Dolphin Group is inviting the public to Dunree Fort at 2 p.m. this Sunday, for a land based whale watch.
This watch will be led by former wildlife ranger, Dermot McLaughlin. If you are planning to attend you should dress appropriately and bring binoculars, spotting scopes and cameras. For further information contact Dermot, telephone 087 7412044.
As part of heritage week there will be a number of guided walks through the village of Fahan. The first walk will take place tomorrow from 11.30 a.m. – 1 p.m. The tour includes St. Mura's Graveyard, Agnes Jones's grave, the graves of 78 Laurentic victims and Cecil F. Alexander's home. The event has been organised by the Fahan Community Council. Meet in the Car Park at St. Mura's old graveyard.
Further walks will be held on Sunday from 2.30 – 4 p.m. on 26th August from 11.30 a.m. – 1 p.m., 28th August from 11.30 a.m. – 1 p.m., 29th August from 11.30 a.m. – 1 p.m. 30th August from 7.30 – 9 p.m. Admission is free for all walks.
'The Wax Auction' - Local Garda, Rugby Players, Football Players and Plasterers ' from Inishowen will brave the pain to help raise vital funds for a local Charity. The event will take place on the 29th August in Tully's Bar, Carndonagh in aid of Inishowen Children's Autism Related Education. What promises to be a great night of great craic and entertainment
Inishowen Children's Autism Related Education will be holding an open day at the Day, Respite and Activity centre (Prefabs) located at Looking Glass Brae, Ballymacarry, Buncrana which have just undergone a revamp making them more child friendly and we have some new playing equipment for our children, we would like to invite members of the public to our opening day at our centre which takes place on Friday 21st August 2009 at 2pm at , we want to give members of our community/Inishowen who support i.C.A.R.E. an opportunity to see were money donated is being spent and to see how happy our children are using our Centre. The Inishowen Country Market has recently made a change to the dates it operates in Buncrana. Instead of operating every other Saturday it now takes place every second and fourth Saturday at the usual time 2 – 3 p.m. This means that the market no longer needs to give out a schedule of dates, a quick look at your calendar will tell you if there's a market on. The upcoming date is tomorrow. The Country Market now offers a wide variety of home made ready cooked meals, breads, jams, cakes, fresh eggs, local and organic vegetables, plants, crafts and greeting cards.
A Cycle Run and Walk will take place this Sunday organised by the North Pole Cycling Club. The cycle starts from the North Pole Bar, Drumfries. Sign on for the cyclists starts at 9.30 a.m. with the first riders off at 10 a.m. There are two cycling routes, one 25 miles and the longer 40 miles. The walk and run starts at 11 a.m. and is over a 10k circuit. Refreshments will be provided afterwards in the North Pole Bar. This is a fundraising event for Karol Doherty from Carndonagh who is representing Ireland in the World Hand Cycling Championships which takes place from 8 – 15 September in Italy.
