Legendary composer John Williams has sent a personal letter of support to Derry’s year as UK City of Culture.

The London Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Frank Strobel, presents an evening of Williams’ work from the films of Steven Spielberg ‘Music for the Big Screen’ at The Venue 2013 on Monday evening, one of the highlights of the cultural year.

Writing from his home in California, the composer sent his best wishes to the city in a letter to the concert organisers.

“I’m delighted to send greetings from Los Angeles, along with my warmest thanks to Maestro Strobel and to all my dear friends in the London Symphony Orchestra for performing so much of my music,” he wrote.

“I’d also like to send my fond regards to everyone gathered at Ebrington Pavilion, along with my best wishes for a joyous night of music.”

Tickets have sold out.
