Greencastle to host maritime festival for Clipper

Big preparations are underway for the arrival of the Clipper yachts to the Foyle.

Inishowen will be hosting a week-long festival throughout the towns and villages along the River Foyle to celebrate the arrival of the Clipper yachts and the rich maritime heritage and resources in the area.

The community of the idyllic seaside village of Greencastle has been working hard over the past few months to ensure the arrival of the Clipper yachts and visiting yachts on the Foyle will receive a warm and colourful Inishowen welcome throughout their visit to the area.

Greencastle will be running a week-long festival from June 30 to July 7 when the boats start the next leg of their race from the village. The Clipper Challenge Yacht race will arrive between June 29 and 30 and will depart from Greencastle on Saturday, July 7 at 5.30pm.

Events and activities will include daily water-based activities, traditional music sessions in local pub/restaurants as well as outdoor sessions, fun fairs, street performers, dances, food/craft markets and tourism expos, the Foyle Inishowen Seafood event, all showcasing the best that the North West has to offer.

There will also be family fun days, ‘Round the World’ Pub Tours with multi-national food and drink promotions, free daily workshops for kids and adults and much more!

Donegal County Council will have provision for temporary berthing facilities at Greencastle Harbour from Saturday, June 30 to Sunday, July 8.
