Help for those faced with repossession

A leading housing advice charity has urged people in Derry to seek their help if they are facing repossession.
Housing Rights Service (HRS) says anyone facing repossession can get free help provided by a brand new scheme.
In July Justice Minister David Ford approved funding for Housing Rights Service to pilot a specialist advice and representation service for people facing the imminent threat of repossession on the day of the court hearing.
Maria McNally is one of two HRS specialist legal advisers who will attend debt related possession hearings in Derry.
“I know from being at Court that local tenants faced with repossession are not going to their hearings. I understand people may be nervous and can often think all is already lost.
“This does not have to be the case and I would really urge tenants facing repossession to attend. Even if you have already come to a payment arrangement, I can provide free independent advice and ensure that your payments are manageable.
“This service is absolutely free so be sure to go to Court and look out for me or my colleague Eamonn. It really is never too late to seek advice,” she says.
