HeyDerry.com launched today

Derry is set to launch its very own social networking site HeyDerry.com in a rival to the phenomenal success of Bebo, MySpace and YouTube.

The site, which launches today will, according to those behind it, also offer members a wealth of discounts and special offers at a number of stores across the city.

“When a member signs up, we will issue them with a membership card,” said E-Con Solutions promotional manager, Chris Kearney, “and with that they can access discounts offered by our on line advertisers.

“I think it is worth saying two things at this point, firstly,” smiles Chris, “this is only for Derry people, there will be no on line grannying from those over the border and secondly it is free to our advertisers.

“Derry people are territorial and that is why we are launching a social network specifically aimed at the local market. What we are trying to do is put the community back into on line community.”

Expectations are high E-Con believe they will have 5, 000 signed up members within six months In an effort to do that 30,000 flyers will be distributed throughout the city from this weekend.

Subscribers to the service can avail of email, instant messaging, video uploads, classified section, music and monthly prize draws.

In launching the site E-Con Solutions, the company behind the idea, have secured a PS3 worth 300, a meal for two at Quaywest, one month membership at Platinum Gym and a signed Derry City football Club jersey.

“We will have monthly draws with similar prizes,” promised E-Con.

It is the membership card however which will provide the biggest attraction.

“The users will get value for money when shopping, 20% off or buy one get one free it depends on the retailer but wherever the poster is displayed members will be looked after.”

Unlike Bebo and MySpace those hoping to say ’HeyDerry.com’ have to pay for the privilege.

“Membership costs 1.25 per week, or 5 per month, that is just to cover administration charges and the rest will be put straight back into developing the site,” E-Con promised, “We are about building an on line community for Derry, letting members develop that organically.”
