Inishowen duo get ready to Rás

The increasing recognition of Donegal as a cycling hot spot in terms of growth has been recognised in that four stages of Ireland’s biggest cycling event, the 2012 An Post Rás, which gets underway on Sunday 27th May in Dunboyne, Co.Meath, will be held in the county.

According to a spokesperson the Donegal LK Bikes team competing in the Rás are ready for the challenge following months of hard preparation, training and racing. The team of four has been announced as Rory Devlin, Buncrana, Damian Lagan, Clonmany, Shaun Stewart, Letterkenny and guest rider Ódhran Connors Dublin.

As part of the training, members of the squad have already stepped up to compete at International level races like Rás Mumhan (4 day event), Tour of the North (4 day event) and the Tour of Ulster (3 day event).

The team and support team are managed by Michael Black of Optimal Fitness Letterkenny and great credit must go to all involved.

LK Bikes Letterkenny are the main sponsors, other sponsors are as follows, Divers Hyundai Letterkenny (supply of team cars), Champion systems (race clothing), Grafix Letterkenny, Inishowen Gateway Hotel, Ballyliffin Hotel and Inishowen Oil along with various other donations.

With 4 stages of the grueling 1200kms race taking place in Donegal, this 60th anniversary Rás is set to be on of the toughest in Rás history. Hopefully the local support will help the Donegal LK bikes team over the many hill climbs in the county.

Stage 4 – Bundoran to Buncrana 149kms

Mamore Gap @ 136kms – circa 1.30pm – 2.30pm

Buncrana Town Stage finish – circa 2.00pm – 3.30pm
