Jailed for gross indecency

A 61-year-old man has been jailed for six months for gross indecency.

Daniel Martin ‘Speedy’ Carlin, of Ballyarnett Village, pleaded guilty to two charges of gross indecency towards a child.

The offences occurred in the victim’s home between January 1, 2006 and December 31, 2007 and began when she was six years old.

Derry Crown Court heard Carlin was in a relationship with the child’s mother and would stay overnight in the house.

He went into the girl’s bedroom naked and exposed his genitals to her.

Carlin, who was the victim of a paramilitary-style shooting last year, has a previous conviction for voyeurism which was committed while he was a supervisor in the Templemore Sports Complex.

Yesterday, Judge Stephen Fowler jailed Carlin for six months and ordered him to sign the sex offenders register for seven years.

He also imposed a sexual offenders prevention order for five years which bans the 61-year-old from having any unsupervised contact with children under 16 and orders him to disclose his conviction to any potential future employer.
