Limavady boxer rallies support for friend

A Limavady boxer has rallied a number of big names from the world of sport to support his pro boxer friend who is recovering from a brain injury.

Gary Doherty from Limavady is raising money for his friend Kieran Farrell, a lightweight pro boxer from Heywood in Manchester.

“Kieran suffered a brain injury in his last fight and was forced into retirement after spending four days in intensive care following his English Lightweight title fight in December past,” explained 36-year-old Gary.

“I’m the organiser and I have attracted the support of fitness and boxing fans from Limavady, Coleraine and further afield; approximately 10-15 individuals will participate. The reason is because it is a very touching story that I have relayed to these participants and they too have been touched and collectively we have decided to fundraise for Kieran.”

The fundraiser is being held at Breens gym in Belfast on March 9.

“It’s where Kieran trained,” said gary. “The fundraisers have supported me and the general public have supported us all, but I have had additional support direct from Paul ‘Dudey’ McCloskey, Ricky Hatton, John Breen, Matchroom Sport, Amir Khan and others.”
