Seven ‘brides’ will be ‘zipping’ across the Foyle in September when the staff from Bridal Elegance and Angel M Hair and Beauty take part in the Children in Crossfire event.

Inspired by a poster she spotted, staff member Catherine Curran, was quick to enlist her colleagues to take part.

Speaking to the ‘Journal’ she said: “I really wanted to take part last year, but not on my own, so I’ve spent the last tweleve months getting my colleagues on-board.”

And her persuasion skills have worked as her boss, Elaine McCloskey and five other staff members have signed up to the challenge.

They’ve embraced the event heads-on, even agreeing to wear wedding dresses too! Catherine continued: “As we work in the bridal industry we thought wearing wedding dresses would be a different twist. We’re all really looking forward to it - especially supporting a local charity and having good fun at the same time.”

In fact, owner of Bridal Elegance Elaine McCloskey is wearing the dress she donned seven years ago on her own ‘big day’. She said: “I’m hoping that it fits, seven years and three kids later!”

But she had nothing to fear as our photographer gathered the participants together for our photo - and the dress fitted perfectly!

Of all seven taking part, organiser Catherine Curran is the only one not married so she is looking forward to choosing a dress. “I usually help others choose a wedding dress so it’s going to be lovely to be on the other side, although I do have to choose something lightweight as we have to allow room for the harness!”

Head of Fundraising at Children in Crossfire, John Ryan McLaughlin said: “We have been amazed at the enthusiasm from Catherine and her colleagues and are delighted that they are taking part - and with such an inventive twist!”

If you too are now inspired to take part in the challenge you can contact the Children in Crossfire office on 028 71269898 or email events@childrenincrossfire.org. A £30 deposit will secure your place and they will support you with fundraising ideas and sponsorship materials to help you raise the additional £160 sponsorship required.
