Man admits sexually abusing daughter

A Derry man has admitted sexually assaulting his daughter.

The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting his daughter on January 1, 2010.

He had initially denied the charge however before a jury was sworn to try the case this morning, the defendant applied to be re-arraigned.

Sentencing was adjourned for a probation pre-sentence report to be compiled.

The defendant was released on continuing bail and ordered to sign the sex offenders register.

He will appear in court again on May 21.
