Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness has said the lessons learned from the peace process here could help others around the world.
Mr McGuinness made the comments following a meeting with the Colombian ambassador Mauricio Rodríguez Múnera to discuss the ongoing peace process in the south American country.
The Mid Ulster MLA met the ambassador at Stormont on Friday.
Speaking after the meeting, Mr McGuinness said; “After decades of conflict it is important every effort is made to find a meaningful and lasting peace settlement in Colombia.”
The Deputy First Minister said he supports all efforts for peace in Colombia.
“We are still on our own peace journey and recognise every situation is unique and requires a local solution to achieve lasting peace.
“I am fully supportive of the peace process in Colombia and I am prepared to share any of the lessons learned from our experience,” he said.
Last year, Derry Sinn Féin councillor Barney O’Hagan was part of a delegation of politicians from the North who visited Colombia to meet with key figure in the country’s peace process, including the president.
