Queen Elizabeth II shakes hands with Northern Ireland Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness watched by First minister Peter Robinson at the Lyric Theatre in Belfast.

Martin McGuinness has shaken hands with the British Queen.

The handshake took place around 11am at Belfast’s Lyric Theatre.

The north’s deputy first minister and the Queen were attending a charity event organised by Cooperation Ireland.

It has been reported Mr McGuinness spoke to her in Irish saying the words: “Goodbye and God speed.”
