The 25-year-old, who is alleged to have been the driver of the car, is further charged with burglary, criminal damage, and having no insurance or licence.

The 23-year-old, who was a passenger in the car, is further charged with assisting offenders by changing clothes in an apparent attempt to disguise identity.

Speaking during the hearing at Derry Magistrates Court this morning District Judge Barney McElholm expressed condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Constable Philippa Reynolds.

District Judge Barney McElholm described it as a “senseless and needless loss of life”.
