Minister called on to visit human waste sludge site

Limavady borough councillors voted unanimously on Tuesday to support a motion objecting to a planning application for a human waste sludge cake site outside the town.

The motion about the application for the site at Broad Road was brought by DUP Colrs Alan Robinson, George Robinson and James McCorkell. Colr. Alan Robinson said they were delighted it won unanimous support.

The motion read: “This Council, in its entirety as a corporate body, object to the current planning application for a human waste sludge cake site at the former quarry on the Broad Road, and wish the Minister and senior planners to be made aware of the council’s total opposition in writing.”

“I was delighted that Limavady Borough Council gave the residents the support they deserve in opposing this most controversial of applications. For three years Limavady Team DUP have been dealing with, and opposing this issue, and hope that both the planners and the Minister will see the damage this site would do to our beautiful Borough,” said Colr. Robinson.

“The Minister had been invited to come and see the site’s location for himself, which he declined, either on a private visit or to include a meeting with representatives of the objectors. I firmly believe that the Minister would fully understand the undesirability of this site and why opposition has been so vocal and on many different points if he saw the site for himself. I now extend another invitation for a visit to the Minister and sincerely hope he will see his way clear to paying a visit to the site.””
