MLAs call for Price release

Foyle MLAs Raymond McCartney and Pat Ramsey have renewed their calls for the immediate release of Marian Price.

Sinn Féin MLA Raymond McCartney was part of a delegation which met Justice Minister David Ford at Stormont yesterday on the issue while Mr Ramsey was part of an SDLP delegation which met the Secretary of State. Mr Ramsey also called for the release of Gerry McGeogh.

Mr McCartney said; “Marian Price should be released immediately. Her continued imprisonment is an affront to natural justice. On humanitarian terms alone she should be moved to an outside hospital, never mind the fact that her continued imprisonment damages public confidence in the justice system.

“In the absence of her release we pressed the Minister to take immediate steps to have Marian Price moved to an outside hospital.”

Mr Ramsey said; “The meeting today with Mr Paterson was both robust and challenging. In what was, at times, a heated exchange, we sought to question the Secretary of State about the rationale for the continued detention of Marian Price.”
