Mum ‘terrified’ to return home after attack

Limavady Deputy Mayor Alan Robinson says a young mum and her son are too frightened to return to her home after it was targeted at the weekend.
The criminal damage on the house in the Glens happened during the early hours of Saturday when the front window of the two-storey property was damaged.
Colr. Robinson said the young woman - who moved into the property on the Thursday - has been left petrified by the attack.
Speaking at the weekend after visiting the girl, who he said wishes to remain anonymous, Colr. Robinson said: “This young mother had only moved in on Thursday evening to start a new life and provide a cosy home for her and her son. Her doting parents and family circle had spent some time and considerable money carrying out decorations prior to her moving in. Her home was going to be her castle and the beginning of a new phase in her life which she was looking forward to. However, within 48 hours of settling into her new accommodation, a gutless coward skulked in the early hours of Saturday morning to launch a brick through her living room window whilst she and her little son slept within their new surroundings.”
Colr. Robinson urged anyone with information about the attack to give it to the police.
“People doing this might think it’s a great laugh, but attacks like this in the early hours scare the living daylights out of people, because your home is somewhere you should always feel safe. I hope that the PSNI will catch the waste of space responsible. I cannot think of a punishment strong enough for anyone who does something like this to a young single vulnerable girl and her little boy. It destroys lives and leaves people like wrecks.”
The Deputy mayor said the victim is “too terrified to return and is back home in the care of her loving parents seeking alternative housing”. “Personally, as Deputy Mayor I am seething with anger at this incident. I know that there are many good people in the Glens from both communities who share my anger and who are fed up to the back teeth with the small anti-community element who loiter within the area acting as judge and jury. I say to them - take yourselves on a one-way ticket out of this town and never come back. You offer and contribute nothing to society. We don’t want you here!”
