Nerve Centre cinema to get exciting new look

Cinema lovers can expect a whole new experience at the Nerve Centre during this year's Foyle Film Festival, thanks to an extensive refurbishment.

The cinema has recently been awarded more than 8,000 in Lottery funding to improve its scereening facilities.

The cash boost will be used to purchase a new screen, a new sound and lighting system, new seating, new curtains, and an induction loop system to improve access for hard of hearing audiences.

Bernie McLaughlin, programme organiser for Foyle Film Festival and the cinema’s education and exhibiton officer, said: “The money will be used to refurbish the cinema, which will then help us develop our audience throughout the year.

“All refurbishments will be completed before the start of this year’s Foyle Film Festival which runs from Friday 21st November until Saturday 29th November.”

Peter Buckingham, head of distribution and exhibition at the UK Film Council, said: “Small independent cinemas often represent the hub of a local community, but many can’t afford to upgrade their facilities.

“We hope these funds will make it possible for cinema-goers in Northern Ireland to enjoy film in a more comfortable environment.”
