New buildings will a ‘make huge’ difference to RVIPS

Funding for a number of new buildings at Roe Valley Integrated Primary School in Limavady “will make a huge diffference” to pupils and staff, according to principal Anne Quinn.
The Roemill Road school started in 2004 with 12 children and now has an enrolment of 178 children; including 28 new arrivals in Primary 1.
This week, Principal Quinn revealed how funding has been approved for a new Primary 1 classrom, a larger assembly hall, a new principal’s office, a new staff office and new special needs room and new toilets.
“We’re all very excited,” said Principal Quinn. “The P1 classroom will be lovely and new and the assembly hall will be used for assemblies and performances. It will make a huge difference to our school. We’re absolutely thrilled with it.”
Principal Quinn said she has been working with the Department of Education to get funding “and we had to prove the school was viable,” she said.
“The fact we have 178 pupils, and 28 just arrived, proves it,” she said. “The parents are delighted and the children are too.”
The new buildings will mean children can rehearse for school performances at school, rather than having to use another venue.
“When we have perfomances we have to use the Roe Valley Arts and Cultural Centre but having the hall means we will be able to do that here and have the peformance here. It’s great for the children and, the other thing is, we will be able to have PE in our school hall, as previously we had to go the Roe Valley Leisure Centre. ” she said. “It really will make such a difference. I suppose we have made the best of our space and we have constantly adapted to the extra children that have come in every year and you can see the children are all very happy too.”
Construction will start at the end of June 2013 with a view to the new build being ready for September 2013, “so, lots to look forward to,” said Principal Quinn. “I think it also says the Department has confidence in the growth and sustainability of the school.”
Principal Quinn added: “The future of RVIPS is really exciting and we have had a lot of feedback from the community and wider community. People are very interested in our school and I feel it’s going to grow and grow. It’s great for us all.”
