New proposal for Waterside superstore

A Derry construction firm has unveiled new plans for a food superstore and hotel development in the Waterside.

McGinnis Group says project at Caw will help address a shortage of hotel beds in the city, “boost the legacy” of the City of Culture and create 500 operational and construction jobs. The company also states that it is confident of attracting a major multi-national food superstore chain which does not currently operate in the city.

The McGinnis Group, which will mark its 35th anniversary next year, is also confident of delivering the construction project despite the several other major retail projects for Derry currently before planners.

John McGinnis, Chief Executive of the Eglinton firm, said: “We are seeking to build a new 100-bed hotel in the Waterside area which could open for business if given the go ahead from the Planning Department for the project. We are also confident of both complimenting and boosting Derry’s current retail offering - we have held discussions with a number of retailers and believe we can deliver a major, multinational retailer not currently present.”

The proposal is for a food superstore, 100-bed hotel and car park with associated access, including a new roundabout at Gransha Park.
