New Year’s Eve : Traffic and Travel

Police have offered the following advice to everyone attending the 2013 launch in Derry tonight.

Road Closures

St Columb’s Road, Waterside will be closed to traffic from 2pm to 9pm. Diversions will be in place and motorists are advised to avoid the area.

The Peace Bridge will be closed between 6.30pm and 9.00pm this evening. Pedestrians and cyclists are advised to use alternative routes.

Queen’s Quay will be closed to traffic between 7.00pm and 8.45pm approximately. No traffic will be permitted in this area.

Diversions will be in place and motorists are advised to avoid the area and seek alternative routes. All motorists are advised to drop off away from the event site and avoid areas and side roads immediately around Queen’s Quay, in order to avoid traffic congestion.

Disabled Drop-Off Points

Disabled Drop-Off Points are at Custom House Street on the Cityside and St Columb’s Park Leisure Centre car park in Waterside.

Limited disabled parking will be available along St Columb’s Road for Blue Badge holders. Cityside, Blue Badge holders should use available public disabled car parking spaces.

Car Parking

Drivers have been reminded that normal on street parking restrictions will be in place and that they should avoid parking anywhere where they may be blocking entrances to residences or businesses or where they may be obstructing emergency access.

Motorists are advised to use the available car parks at the following locations:

Cityside Car Parking: Foyleside (until 10pm), Bridge Street, Foyle Road, Foyle Valley Railway, Lawrence Hill, Magee Campus, Society Street and William Street.

Waterside Car Parking: Alfred Street, Bond’s Hill, Distillery Brae, Simpsons Brae, Spencer Road and Waterside Health Centre. The Hockey Pitch at St Columb’s Park Leisure Centre is also available but is only open until 10pm.

Please advise drivers travelling from Limavady, Culmore and Buncrana to use the car parks at Sainsbury’s and Magee University.

Drivers travelling from Strabane and Nixon’s Corner directions should use Foyleside car parks (open until 10pm)

Drivers travelling from the Waterside should use the car parking provided on the hockey pitch at St Columb’s Park Leisure Centre on Limavady Road (open until 10pm).
