Nokia move Muff to Thornhill!
The world's largest mobile phone company has inadvertently rewritten the history of partition by shifting large parts of Derry into the Republic of Ireland.
Nokia's online OVI maps, available online and installed in millions of Nokia's new generation of interactive phones, moves the Derry/Donegal border into the North by around 3kms in each direction.
Map users switch from Derry 'United Kingdom' to Derry 'Ireland' at various points of the city.
The maps suggest the Bridgend border now starts at the Branch roundabout, the Muff border now starts at Thornhill Park, while the Balloughry border also is shifted about 1.5miles towards the city.
A Nokia spokeswoman said the company are currently looking into the border anomaly.
“In a limited amount of cases and in close proximity to country borders, Ovi Maps has located a person correctly on the map, yet randomly displayed the name of the adjacent country. While this is due to technical implementation, it has no effect on navigation capabilities, nor does it reflect any political views.
“We are looking to correct this for future releases of Ovi Maps and apologise for any inconvenience,” she said.
