Norwegian oil rig recruitment underway

A recruitment drive is getting underway in Derry as part of an Irish firm’s major investment in Norway’s oil and gas fields.

Irish firm Conteck, founded by former executives of the successful Kentz group, say they are “ looking for a wide cross section of people” and say the jobs could last as long as three years.

A recruitment ad has been placed in today’s Derry Journal.

Conteck say they have set up operations in Norway ahead of expected record investments in the country’s oil and gas sector in 2013.

Official data shows oil and gas investments in the country’s lucrative off shore sector are expected to be £28biillion next year.

Conteck say the magnitude of investment offers many opportunities.

“We have entered into a number of joint ventures with local companies who are in search of suitably qualified resources and we are looking for a wide cross section of people, ranging from Project Management personnel to skilled artisans such as qualified electricians, pipe fitters and welders,” Conteck’s Noleen O’Hara says.

“We are about to embark on a major recruitment campaign in Northern Ireland and whether a candidate has oil and gas experience or not, they should still apply as Conteck is not only focused in this s sector, they offer many other opportunities aside, especially for skilled electricians and pip fitters.”

She says Northern Ireland - and Derry - have a great tradition of engineering.

“This is a really great opportunity for young people in Derry to get involved in this major investment, as Rockefeller said ‘don’t be afraid to give up the good, for the great’.

“There is a fantastic opportunity for this generation of engineers to demonstrate their ability.”

Conteck say people should register their interest early - especially electricians who could have a 2-5 month wait for the Norwegian approved DSB qualification.

“Most of the positions which we have on offer have attractive leave rotations, in some cases 12 days in Norway and 16 days home, with food, transport and accommodation taken care of by Conteck,” Noleen says.

It is hoped interviews will begin in January 2013.

Potential candidates are asked to submit their CVs by emailing careers@conteckservices.com or via the website www.conteckservices.com
