NW surf film to premiere tonight
The much awaited North West documentary 'Wave Riders' will premiere in the Jameson Dublin International Film Festival later tonight.
Wave Riders is the realisation of a long term ambition by Joel Conroy, of Ins Films to produce a documentary on the spectacular nature of surfing in Ireland. Having teamed up with local film-maker Margo Harkin, of Besom Productions the film finally came to fruition thanks to part-financing of 250,000 euros from several sources.
The film showcases the world class surfing destinations available off Ireland’s North West coast which are now attracting the best international surfers to the island.
The story climaxes with a big wave finale using the newly developed technique of tow surfing as Gabe Davies, Richie Fitzgerald, Al Meanie and Duncan Scott ride a monster wave reaching heights of 60’ off the coast of Mullaghmore in December last year.
The film was funded by the European Union through the Interreg IIIA Programme managed for the Special EU Programmes Body by the ICBAN Partnership, Northern Ireland Screen, Irish Film Board/ Bord Scannn na hireann, BBC Northern Ireland and the Broadcasting Commission of Ireland.
The first public screening of the film will be at the Jameson Dublin International Film Festival tonight and Director Joel Conroy, Producer Margo Harkin and surfers Gabe Davies and Richard Fitzgerald are travelling to Dublin for the occasion.
