Pauline McLaughlin

This week's Friday's Child is Derry woman Pauline McLaughlin who recently won Derry City Council's 'Woman of the Year' award for Services to the Community sector. Pauline, from Fortwilliam Terrace, has worked in the community sector for more than 20 years in both paid and unpaid capacities. She's currently involved in the Cosy Club in the Ballymagroarty / Hazelbank area and is chairperson of the Foyle Women's Information network.

Mother to two sons, Conal and Emmet, Pauline is also nana to 10 month-old Lucca.

How would you describe yourself?

A social butterfly!

Happiest childhood memory?

Linsfort Beach (with most of the neighbours).

What was your first job?

Clerical Officer in Education Office, Brooke Park.

Favourite book?

Anything historical. At the moment I am reading 'The Medici - Godfathers of the Renaissance'.

Favourite film?

Many, but love 'Jean de Florette'.

Favourite television programme?

'Shameless'.

Favourite expression?

'Aye, no bother'.

Favourite method of relaxation?

My daily power naps!

Favourite holiday destination?

Whit Sunday Islands, Australia.

Who would you most like to meet?

Joni Mitchell/ David Attenborough.

What makes you angry?

Litter.

What makes you happy?

Smile on Lucca's face.

What human quality do you most admire?

Sense of humour.

What human quality do you least admire?

Negativity.

What has been the most embarrassing thing to happen to you?

Putting dishes in the fridge (after a night out).

What was the worst thing to happen to you in your life?

The deaths of my dad and nephew Ryan.

What is your greatest fear?

Having to bungee jump for a dare.

What has been the high point of your life to date?

Birth of my wee grandson Lucca, 10 months ago.

How would you like to be remembered?

Fondly.

What is your most treasured possession?

As family are not possessions, it has to be my music collection.

If you won the Lotto what would you do with it?

Spend, spend, spend, (and then book into The Priory).

If you could be granted one wish in life, what would you ask for?

Good health for me and mine.

If you could write your own epitaph what would it be?

"My life consisted not in holding good cards, but in playing the ones I held well".
