Pixcam to the rescue after daylight robbery of tourists
It was smiles all round yesterday when two tourists, who had their camera stolen in broad daylight were gifted a replacement by local business Pixcam.
Though there was in fact a happy ending of sorts for Laura Podaro and Martin Fischer it had still proved a “shock” when their camera was snatched from Laura’s hand at Free Derry Corner on Sunday afternoon.
Laura, who is originally from Italy but lives in Switzerland, explained: “We were standing at Free Derry Corner and I was taking a picture, suddenly a boy ran past and took my camera. He then ran away very, very fast. I just wasn’t expecting that.
“We felt it was a lovely interesting city so it was sad and surprising that this happened.
“It is very nice that Pixcam replaced our camera. We are now very happy and have a very happy memory of Derry now.
“Everyone has been so nice. Even before we were given a replacement for the camera, we decided, as everyone had been so kind to us that we wouldn’t tell our friends about being robbed.”
The couple had been travelling Ireland for one week and had taken between 100 and 200 photographs.
Those are now lost. However Pixcam, a camera and photographic company based in Buncrana offered the couple a replacement camera in order to say sorry on behalf of all in the North West.
The company also arranged delivery of the camera. Having heard the tourists plight on the Mark Patterson show on BBC Radio Foyle, businessman Colin Deeny said: “Well to be honest it will do us no harm from a business point of view but we just thought that this would give the couple a better memory of the North West when they return home.”
