While all other footballing eyes may be glued to events at the Euros, there’s only one big match this summer for the staff at Derry’s two Primark stores.

Organised by Sinead McCourt, department manager at Primark’s Lisnagelvin store, the inaugural Primark Cup, will this Sunday pit staff from the Waterside and cityside stores against each other in a charity fundraiser.

The match is part of Sinead’s fundraising drive for The Foundation for the Study of Infant Deaths (FSID), which will also see her take part in the Great North Run in Newcastle in September.

“The staff are all taking this very seriously,” says Sinead.

“Training finished up this week and now everyone can’t wait for the big game .”

Novice runner Sinead is also in the middle training for the Great North Run - one of the world’s most popular half marathons.

“Training’s going ok, I’m up to about half way. I have family in Newcastle and my brother has done it before, I just decided this would be the year.”

Mum-of-two Sinead hopes to raise as much as possible for FSID, a charity whose work she knows well.

“I’ve always had a big interest in midwifery and do voluntary work taking ante natal classes at Surestart. It was through that I became aware of FSID, because they are our point of reference when teaching mums about the risks of cot death,” she says.

Anyone who would like to contribute to Sinead’s fundraising can do so online at http://www.justgiving.com/Sinead-McCourt

Sunday’s fundraising football match gets underway at Magee’s pitches at 3pm.
