PSNI forum for older resident on policing

The inaugural meeting of Roe Valley Older Peoples’ Forum took place at Roe Valley Arts and Cultural Centre on Monday 30th April.

Limavady Mayor, Sean Mc Ginchey welcomed all those present, roughly two dozen people.

“This is a great initiative by the PSNI,” he said. “Older people can feel vulnerable, therefore it is important they express their views and have an input into local policing.”

Limavady Area Commander, Chief Inspector Sam Donaldson thanked attendees.

“The older persons’ forum is set up to address those issues which affect senior members of the local community most in their daily lives. We want to ensure the local delivery of policing meets their individual needs. This is a great opportunity for older people in our community to share their views so that together we can work to provide a personal, professional and protective service. I would encourage more local people to come along to the next meeting to have their say about local issues.”

He continued: “Limavady is a very safe place to live in comparison to other areas of Northern Ireland.  Crime in general in Limavady is down by 9% compared with this time last year which equates to almost two hundred less victims. Burglary is down a massive 46% with 92 less incidents in the same time period.”

The next meeting of Roe Valley Senior Forum is planned for June and everyone over the age of 60 are invited to come along and meet their local Neighbourhood Police Team.

“If you or someone you know would like to find out more regarding Roe Valley Older Persons’ Forum contact Limavady Neighbourhood Policing Team on 0845 600 8000,”said a spokesperson.
