Real IRA claims Culture office bombing

The Real IRA has claimed responsibility for bombing Derry’s City of Culture office.

In a statement issued to the Guardian newspaper, the dissident republican group said it targeted the office two weeks ago as an “objection” to the “political exploitation of Derry’s name and culture”.

In the statement the Real IRA also said bomb attacks on banks - including the Ulster Bank and Santander in Derry - were “an integral part of our strategy of targeting the financial infrastructure that supports the British government’s capitalist colonial system in Ireland”.

“The impetus to carry out this type of attack is directly linked to pressure from working-class communities in Ireland as a whole,” the statement read.
