Real IRA shot sex offender

The Real IRA have claimed responsibility for shooting a convicted sex offender in Derry last week.

The 48 year-old was shot twice in each leg outside a house in the Carnhill area of the city on Tuesday night last.

He had previously been jailed for eight months in 2007 for indecently assaulting a girl.

A caller claiming to represent the Real IRA, using a recognised codeword, said the organisation carried out the shooting.

The spokesperson also made allegations against the victim of the attack.
