Robbery victim appeals for return of jewellery

A Derry woman has made an emotional plea for the return of jewellery stolen during a burglary at her Waterside home. The lady, who does not wish to be named, says the jewellery all has immense sentimental value for her and whatever the thieves get for it “means nothing compared towhat it means to me”.

A significant amount of jewellery was stolen during the break-in which occurred in the Ashgrove Park area of the Waterside. The house was also ransacked and extensive damage caused to the interior of the

property.

The break-in occurred between 3.30pm and 8pm on Monday, 7th January while the woman and her husband were out of the house. While shocked and upset at the burglary and the damage caused, the lady says she ismore distressed by the loss of the jewellery, much of which has sentimental value for her.

“Many of these pieces were given to me by people who are very important to me. Whatever the thieves get for it means nothing compared to what it means to me”, she said.

While accepting that the jewellery may have already been sold on, the woman is hopeful that one of the items, a ‘Roberto Coin’ gold and diamond pendant which she wore on her son’s wedding day, may be identified and returned to her. The distinctive ruby dot on the clasp is the signature mark of Roberto Coin and can be easily identified.

Some of the other pieces of jewellery stolen were: a 9ct diamond cut cross and chain; a gold brooch with rubies; gold three bar gate bracelet; gold rope link chain; gold stud earrings in a rope/knot design; gold belcher link chain; triangle celtic ‘trinity’ pendant; ‘scapular’ double pendant engraved with the letter ‘M’ on a double chain; triangular celtic ‘trinity’ earrings; silver wave design hoop earrings and a ladies Lorus wrist watch.

The lady would be grateful to anyone who can help have any of these items returned to her.

Anyone who knows of these items being sold in suspicious circumstances or has any information is asked to contact Detectives at Strand Road police station on 0845 600 8000 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
