Runaway car ends up in garden

Drumahoe home-owners had a lucky escape on Sunday when a runaway car travelled through their gardens.

The vehicle, which had been parked on a slope in the housing development, travelled backwards through one garden, ending up on its end in the garden next door.

A resident said: “There was an almighty crash and I immediately rushed outside. At first I thought someone was in the car but thankfully there wasn’t.

“It had crashed into a small tree in the garden next door and I dread to think what would have happened had the tree not been there.

“It would certainly have hit the front of the house.”

Another resident noted: “We’re lucky it was such a bad night, because no-one was out walking. Our daughter had just left five minutes earlier and her car would have been in the direct path of the runaway car so we’re very thankful that the only damage has been to our gardens.”
