SF rally will be 'peaceful' - Chivers
Sunday's Sinn Fein protest in Belfast held before the homecoming parade for British forces will be peaceful and dignified, Limavady Mayor Brenda Chivers has declared.
The Sinn Fein mayor said: "At the beginning of these illegal occupations, many thousands of citizens took to the streets to highlight their opposition. This march and rally is a continued expression of that opposition.”
Colr. Chivers said the “peaceful and dignified rally” during the event will “highlight the continued opposition to these illegal wars by people from right across the six counties from many different backgrounds.”
‘Unbridled hatred’
However, Limavady Deputy Mayor George Robinson - who supports the parade - said the Sinn Fein rally exposes “their unbridled hatred of the British Armed Forces. The service men and women that we are honouring with the homecoming parade come from all sections of the Northern Ireland community and this fact seems to have evaded SF’s radar.”
The DUP councillor called on everyone attending the homecoming parade “not react to any SF, politically inspired, provocation and maintain the dignity of the parade,” he said.
