'Stop blaming Real IRA'

The Real IRA in Derry is being wrongly blamed for attacks across the city, its political wing has claimed.

The 32 County Sovereignty Movement said yesterday that the paramilitary group had nothing to do with recent attacks in Derry, including the latest incident - a petrol bomb attack on Sinn Fein’s Creggan offices.

Real IRA elements have also been fingered for a recent hoax pipe bomb attack at the Bogside HQ of the credit union, repeated attacks on the former Bogside home of SDLP Assemblyman Pat Ramsey as well as orchestrating attacks on ambulance service personnel.

A spokesman for the 32CSM condemned “without reservation” the latest attack at the Rath Mor offices of Sinn Fein.

“In recent weeks there have been a litany of attacks on the community, such as the make-believe hoax bomb at the credit union in Bogside, and some are only too happy to jump on the bandwagon and blame anti-Agreement republicans in order to turn the community against them and their political analysis.

“The 32CSM believe in open political debate with those of differing political viewpoints and, having been the victims of numerous cases of politically motivated intimidation in the past, we wish to put on record our abhorrence at this latest development.”

The group also dismissed suggestions that dissident republicans may have been involved in the attack on SF’s offices.

“We in the 32CSM challenge anybody to produce any evidence that republicans were involved in this attack. The implication of such remarks is clear and we categorically deny republican involvement in this attack.”
