Telehouse for Derry in sight
The Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness has said he's hopeful that a resolution will be found to the issue of the location of the Telehouse for Project Kevlin.
His statement has fuelled speculation that the controversial decision to locate it in Coleraine rather than Derry could be reversed.
Mr McGuinness has been involved in a series of meetings on the issue of the Telehouse with the First Minister Peter Robinson and in discussions with officials in the office of the Taoiseach.
He said he had a number of 'useful meetings' with Ministerial colleagues and put the case that the Telehouse should be in Derry as originally proposed.
His statement said that Minister Arlene Foster had undertaken to give the issue 'urgent consideration'. The DUP Minister is in charge of the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Investment, which took the decision on the Telehouse.
The 30m euro Project Kevlin will connect the North West with a major transatlantic cable. It's thought the Telehouse, where the cable will connect with land-based communications, could be a magnet for high tech IT firms.
This afternoon's development comes after the Journal launched a campaign in its newspapers and on its website - backed by local political and civic leaders - to keep the Telehouse in Derry.
